For most adults, trips to the dentist are pretty routine. You have your teeth cleaned and examined and then go about the rest of your day. For parents and children, however, there is nothing routine about these early trips to our dental office. Your time with us is as much about exploration and education as preventative cleaning.

When you visit our dentist for children, we guide you and your child around caring for your child’s teeth at home. We emphasize the importance of brushing, flossing, and rinsing twice daily to ensure proper dental health. We also educate children on the importance of healthy eating habits that don’t include over-indulgence in candy or sweets. After all, the fewer sweets your child eats, the better their dental health!

We also make sure you and your child have plenty of time to have all your questions answered. Believe us, there are no questions we haven’t heard before regarding your child’s dental care. We believe a significant portion of our role as pediatric dentists is educating parents and children on how to create healthy dental habits. There are two ideal times to develop healthy habits: when you’re a child and right now. Luckily, we can help you with both.

While we play the educator role, we let your child explore our office at their own pace. Children are naturally curious about their surroundings. We want them to discover how much fun our dental family can be, including touring the facility and answering any questions they may have about our practice, the equipment we use, and how we perform our duties.

Part of helping a child with anxiety about a dentist trip is easing them into the idea of regular dentist visits. When you and your child finish your first visit, we hope we have created an atmosphere where your child feels comfortable and engaged with the process.

At Dogwood Family Dentistry, we also make sure to listen to the most critical member of our team – you! As a parent, you know your child’s needs and limits far better than anyone else.

If you feel like helping your child ease themselves into routine dental maintenance at our office, you can join us in the treatment area.
